Astley provides a smooth pipe that features ring grain around the bowl. Normally, ring grain emerges from sandblasting, but the excellent carvers used by Astley managed to keep the pipe smooth. A Dublin shape has a conical tobacco chamber. Flake tobaccos pack more easily in such a chamber. The black stem is straight with a tapered design.
